Guided Flyfishing Trip Information
Our trips are based on 1 or 2 guest(s) to 1 guide max.
Wild Trout
Our Wild Trout guided flyfishing trips are primary designed for Novice to Experienced Anglers. On these trips our guests are required to be able to hike/walk into a remote stream. Of course these trips require a little more effort on our guests’ part but are well worth it. We’ll hike/walk, depending on the stream and time of year, from about one half mile to a mile. No rushing things here, we’ll take our time walking in while discussing the days possibilities. Once we arrive at the water we’ll fish these remote streams where few other anglers fish. These are the same streams our guides fish on their days off, they will share the tips and tricks it takes to fool these wily trout onto your fly!
We also offer overnight backpacking trips on the streams, these trips are truly special.

Smallmouth Bass
Our Smallmouth Bass guided flyfishing trips are a special treat for the visiting angler. Most people think trout when they think of flyfishing, that is true until they hook into one of these hard fighting river smallies on the fly. We offer Wade and Float trips on these rivers for both full day and half day trips. Since these rivers are a bit bigger than average trout streams most of our guest prefer to float in our self bailing rafts. These rafts offer several advantages including, no wading (nice swivel seat), higher view point than wading which allows our guests to “sight fish”, covering much more water and being able to access remote stretches of these rivers. For an added bonus we also offer overnight trips on the rivers. Float fish 4-5 miles, stop for the evening, relax while your guide sets up camp, sit around the campfire and talk about the days highlights while your guide prepares dinner. Then in the morning, after a light breakfast head back out on to the river for a second day of fishing.

Delayed Harvest Trout
Our Delayed Harvest Trout on the fly guided flyfishing trips are great for the beginner and the novice flyfisherman. During the catch and release part of the season (October until June) these streams are stocked heavily and make for an ideal location to learn the basics. As these fish get accustomed to being in the river and seeing fishermen they get a bit smarter and require a bit more stealth and finesse. We offer Wade and Float trips on the rivers for both full day and half day trips. These rivers vary in size from 10 to 80 feet wide so we have a large selection to choose from.

Special Regulation Trout
Our Special Regulation Trout guided flyfishing trips are incredible. The NC Wildlife Resource Commission has designated the Catawba River tailrace below Lake James as the only Special Regulation Trout stream in the state. Great news for not only us here at On The Fly Guide Service but also for our clients. We are the only outfitter offering guided flyfishing trips on this river. It has take many hours of hard work to figure out this fishery and we feel we have a good handle on the fishing and now willing to share this knowledge with our clients. We offer Wade and Float trips on this river for both full day and half day trips. Since this river are a bit bigger than average trout streams most of our guest prefer to float in our self bailing rafts. These rafts offer several advantages including, no wading (nice swivel seat), higher view point than wading which allows our guests to “sight fish”, covering much more water and being able to access remote stretches of these rivers.
